TikTok trends: The rise of the replica sneaker

The sneaker industry has always battled with the counterfeit industry, from holiday stalls featuring fake Nikes in Turkey, to sidewalks in Italy.

Add in the extremities of social media and the desire to have expensive clothes without the price tag and you have an increase in consumers flocking to replica sites online.

Walking through Kingston you will inevitably stroll past beds and blankets that have been intricately folded and placed under bus stops and bridges to avoid the rain.

When the sun sets people experiencing homelessness will gather up these bundles and seek shelter from the weather and the noise of Kingston in hopes of getting some sleep.

KU students are devestated as their homes are destroyed by earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.

Kingston students with family in the region hit by powerful earthquakes on Monday are desperate for news from home.


Two powerful earthquakes hit southern Turkey and northwest Syria, killing thousands of people and destroying whole neighbourhoods.

For many meat eaters, a burger takes up the space of a box and the impact that burger has is limited to their physical experience of it.

The International Liberty Association (ILA) was active in Kingston town centre this week raising awareness of protests for women’s rights in Iran.

Demonstratons have been ongoing in Iran since the death of 22 year-old Kurdish woman Mahsa ‘Jina’ Amini who died after being detained by Iranian morality police for wearing her headscarf ‘improperly’.

Be more Ali: The legacy left by KU student a year on

A year on from the death of KU student Ali Abucar Ali, his legacy remains strong at basketball club Chiswick Gators.

The team motto is to “Be more Ali”, inspiring the players to emulate the kindness and pride for the club Ali held.

Michael Kwentoh, the head of Chiswick Gators basketball club said: “The legacy Ali has left behind is one of being kind to others, being dedicated and resilient.”

Ali died in November 2021 after being stabbed whilst saving an elderly lady who was being attacked.
